About the event

The Viterbo University Out of Our Minds Chamber Series will feature acclaimed flutist Iva Ugrčić and pianist Satoko Hayami at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Fine Arts Center Nola Starling Recital Hall.

Described as “luminaries,” “world-class,” and “adventurous,” the flute-piano duo of Ugrčić and Hayami have presented uniquely diverse and virtuosic programs through dynamic performances and storytelling since 2017. Winner of the The American Prize in solo performance in 2023, Ugrčić has been described as “a natural star on her instrument,” known for her technical brilliance, expressive musicianship, and remarkable versatility. Hayami is an award-winning (The American Prize for Chamber Music Performance and other honors) pianist who performs and teaches chamber music in countries around the world. She is in constant demand for collaborations with today's leading musicians, including Grammy winners and artists. Both Ugrčić and Hayami have performed at renowned music festivals and venues across the world.

The program will feature works by diverse women composers, including Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 64 by Melanie Bonis, Elegie for Flute and Piano by Doina Rotaru, Concertino for Flute and Piano, Op. 107 by Cecile Chaminade, Goldenrod Sonata by Sato Matsui, and Hues of Spring by Eunike Tanzil. It will also feature the world premiere of Breeze for Flute and Piano by Viterbo music faculty member Mary Ellen Haupert.

The concert is free and open to the public. There will be a free will offering to cover artist fees and marketing expenses.
