About the event
The program will open with César Franck's Sonata in A major originally written for Violin and Piano. The four-movement sonata is a masterpiece of Romantic chamber music, filled with lush melodies and intricate harmonies. Dedicatee of the piece, Eugene Ysaye, who himself often performed this piece, told the audience he played it "con amore" as this was a wedding gift.
Next, the duo will perform the best-known work by American composer, Eldin Burton, Sonatina for flute and piano. It is a charming and playful work that showcases the virtuosity of both performers. The three movements of the Sonatina vary in character and mood, ranging from the light and breezy Allegretto grazioso to the lively and rhythmic Allegro giocoso quasi fandango.
